Artland 2014
Thread, was specifically made for the Artland exhibition and is a repose to the two major disciplines on the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology Brunswick campus; Fashion textiles and Architecture.
After investigating the way yarn is spun I decided to make a work that featured a series of cables that came together at a single point. Simultaneously I was draw to the architectural work of Santiago Calatrava, whose buildings I had seen in Valencia, Spain.
The work utilises the parabolic effect of crossing cables to give the optical effect of a curve. As one walks around the piece the perspective is flattened and so notions of space are also explored.
Thread, 2016, Stainless steel cable, Mild Steel, 4000 x 2200 x 1800 (mm)
